By Dr. Jim Weldon, Jr.
You have been looking all your life. But things just don’t seem right, right now. Everything was great for a while… but after a while, you get that feeling that you have been here before. They have let you down once again, they are NOT who you thought they were, they have changed. And now you feel empty… disillusioned… disappointed… alone again.
What do you do now? Begin to look for someone else? Pick up the pieces of your heart and move on? Sure that’s what you have done before. But you always end up in the same place with the same feelings. How do you do that after you have invested so much?
Maybe it’s time to try something new? Maybe it’s time to look somewhere else. What would you say if I told you, that I know someone who loves YOU more than you could ever imagine? Does it sound too good to be true? Isn’t that what your heart is aching for? What would you say if I told you I know someone who knows you better than you know yourself? This person knows exactly what you need, even before you know it! What would you say if I told you I know someone who can’t wait to show you just how much you are loved? Do I have your attention now?
Is the suspense getting to you?
The person I am talking about it your Heavenly Father! He loves you more than you could ever imagine! Your Heavenly Father longs for you with an unending longing. He wants you to know the great extent of His love for you more than anything else. He wants you to know how precious you are to Him and that He is willing to do anything to show you His love. He knows you better than you know yourself! You were His idea! What you would look like, be like, who you would grow up to be. You were planned! You were not an accident! You were created for a reason, a purpose! Your Heavenly Father can’t wait to show you just how much you are loved! He was willing to show you His great love for you, by sending His son to earth. God’s sent His son, Jesus to show you what your Heavenly Father is like and to show you just how much He loves you.
But I have bad news, good news and a choice to share with you. The Bad News is this: we couldn’t handle Jesus so we killed Him. We killed God’s son, Jesus, by nailing him to a cross. Now, I know YOU weren’t there but people just like you and me were there. Why did we kill Him? Because we like to be in control, do our own thing, be our own boss, even be our own god. We don’t like anybody telling us what to do. Your Heavenly Father knows this - remember He knows us better than we know ourselves.
The Good News: This could have been the tragedy of all tragedies. But your Heavenly Father took this event and turned it upside down. Jesus died but your Heavenly Father raised Him back to life! Jesus is alive today and He offers you forgiveness for your sins, reconciliation with God, a full blessed life on this earth and eternal life with God in heaven when we die.
The Choice: In the death and raising back to life of God’s son, Jesus, your Heavenly Father put a choice before you. You can choose to be in control, do your own thing, be your own boss; even be your own god. Or you can choose to let your Heavenly Father have control of your life and show you why He created you. It’s your Heavenly Father’s intention for you and everyone else, to come to know Him and follow Him, but He will not force His way into your life. God wants to be asked.
It’s simple. Just ask. Sincerely ask with your whole being; your whole self. Need some words… Here they are…“Heavenly Father, I am sorry for trying to be my own god. I want to follow your plan and will for my life. Thank you for all you have done through your son, Jesus. Please come into my life and heart and take control. I am yours; you are my Heavenly Father. Help me to grow and follow You for the rest of my life. I ask this in Jesus’ name.”
Congratulations! You have begun the most exciting journey you could ever embark on! Your Heavenly Father will take you places and show you things, which are beyond compare. Keep following, keep the faith, be thankful. If you don’t feel any different, that’s OK! Your decision to follow is based on facts, not feeling. Trust! Here are a few suggestions, which will help.
Tell someone: E-mail me, I would love to hear about your decision! JimWeldon@4fipc.org. I also will send you some “helps” to help you grow in your new relationship with your Heavenly Father. If you are already involved in a church, tell your pastor or priest about your decision. If you are not involved in a church, find one, get involved and begin going to worship on a regular basis. The church is the body of Christ on earth. The church is the hands and feet, ears and eyes of Christ. Get involved! Remember, you are there to give of yourself, as well as get.
Choose to grow in your new relationship with your Heavenly Father. How? Read the Bible daily, especially the back part called the New Testament. Talk to God daily. He is your new best friend who will never leave you or let you down. Begin learning about what it means to be a Christian. Read Christian books. Find a more experienced Christian of the same sex you can talk with, pray with and who will study the Bible with you. Choose to live a life of Joy. Tell others about what our Heavenly Father has done for you (and them) in His son Jesus.
God has BIG plans for you! I can’t wait to hear all about what He is going to do in your life!
